SRI LANKAN TIME // ARUGAM BAY, SRI LANKA

For the first time we had an event in Sri Lanka, and I was very much a fan! The combination of an awesome place, really fun waves, and really cool longboarders made Sri Lanka my favourite event this year! The setup was perfect, a cute little bay with perfect right handers. Everything was only a short walk or if you were feeling lazy (which was most of the time in the 40˚ heat!) it was too easy to get a ride on the local 3 wheel taxi’s called took-tooks. They provided much enjoyment trying to fit as many girls in one as possible.

Eveything was dirt cheap also, I’ll list the prices of a few of my favourites: Coca-Cola 50c, Ice-Cream 20c, Magnum Ice-Cream 80c, All-you-can-eat Curry $2.50, Water $1, Took Took Ride 50c. But don’t expect to get anywhere in a hurry. Sri Lankan time is the local time, everything runs in slow motion! Going out for lunch and dinner took 2 to 3 times longer than usual because I don’t think Sri Lankan’s are familiar with ‘Fast Food’ it takes them about 10 hours to make a salad….triple that time if you want a curry! I nearly passed out one day waiting for a pizza.

We had the best 2 weeks surfing all day, adventuring up and down the coast to perfect remote point breaks, chasing wild elephants in took tooks and the beach parties at night were really fun.
